Corrections

Report an error

Rules change, agencies reorganize, and we make mistakes. If something here is wrong, we want to know quickly, and we would rather hear it from you than leave it live.

How to report something

Use the contact form and include the page, what is wrong, and if possible a link to the statute or agency page that shows the correct position. A source makes a correction much faster because it can be verified immediately.

What happens next

Reports about a legal deadline are treated as urgent because people act on them.

  • We verify the report against primary sources.
  • If it is correct, the record is updated and a dated entry is added to that record's change history, visible on the page.
  • If a rule turns out to have changed rather than simply being recorded wrong, we recheck every other state record affected by the same kind of change.
  • If we cannot verify the report either way, we lower the record's confidence level and say what is in dispute rather than leaving it looking settled.

Attorneys and agencies

If you are a licensed attorney or work for a licensing agency and something here misstates your state's process, please tell us. We will correct it, and if you are willing to be named as a reviewer for that state we will disclose the relationship on the record itself.
